Lets Talk Lashes

This post is to all my lash dolls out there!

When you first came to see me, you maybe remember me asking you,
“Do you want Volume or Classic Lashes?” Most of you answered with, “I trust you, just do whatever you think.” Meaning:¬†you have NO IDEA what in the world I just asked you ūüôā

So let me explain the difference between the two types of lashes AND THE ONLY TWO TYPES OF LASHES that will ever be done at a professional salon.

Classic lashes are going to be your main lash extensions.

They are most commonly seen around town, and at majority of the lash spas out there. This application is a ONE to ONE, meaning one synthetic lash is adhered to one natural lash. This will give your natural lashes a fuller, longer, and darker ‘natural’ look.

Different lengths, widths, and styles can be achieve with classic lashes. The only thing that never changes is how one is applied- ONE to ONE.

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Volumes lashes are an advanced technique, they are less common in salons because they require more education, and they take more time to apply. Volume gives the lash line a much more fuller and darker appearance than classics. The lashes are still applied ONE to ONE, however, volumeslashes are so thin, your natural lash can hold anywhere from 3-10 lashes on one natural lash. Yes, i just said that. And yes, it is true. Let me put it into perspective, 3 volume lashes=the width of one natural lash. The lashes still come individual, but as the lash artist places the synthetic one on to one natural lash, they create a ‘volume fan’.

So as you can see, it is still connected one to one at the base of the lash and the top fans out to a 3-10D fan creating a bolder look.

Different lengths, styles, and fluffiness can be achieved with volume lashes as well.

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

^ THIS is not a VOLUME lash.
This is what we call ‘cluster lashes’ aka, a nightmare. They may look like a ‘volume fan’ but they are not! Clusters come pre-made into fans. They are heavier and thicker than a volume fan. THEY WILL BREAK YOUR NATURAL LASH.

Now don’t get me wrong, if you need a few lashes for a night, by all means, you can grab some of these with some non-professional adhesive from the beauty store, and wear them for a couple hours.
BUT if any salon is putting these bad babies on you, using semi-permanent professional adhesive, and calling them volume lashes… DO NOT GO THERE! please.

It is very important to find the right lash artist, you have to trust, see their work, and ask them questions before just committing to get extensions put on. Yes, they are only lashes, but someone can do a lot of harm if they don’t know what they are doing. ¬†(check my insta for some horror stories) :-O

Now you know a little more about lashes than you did yesterday!

Your greens are just as important on your face, as they are in your belly!

Last month I launched one of my fav new products, the Green Power Rebuilder.
Many of you have already experienced this weird-prickly sensation herb blend. But what actually is it? And how in the world can an herb mimic the affects of a manual device, such as micro-needle?

Let me explain more in detail what this product is about!

Collagen Induction Therapy (otherwise known as micro-needling) has become one of the most successful ways to reduce wrinkles, acne scarring and stretch marks. A device filled with small needles goes into the skin to puncture the area, activating new collagen growth, and over time, heals the skin back to smooth. In many states, Estheticians are unfortunately not allowed to provide this procedure. Because of this, Lira came up with CIT-A (collagen Induction Therapy- Alternative).

CIT-A is a natural mechanical exfoliator that creates pathways into the epidermis and naturally sloughs away dead skin cells. We call this the “Green Power Rebuilder” which is a blend of finely milled marine and plant extracts such as:

Spongia Officinalis(shown above)- Mechanical exfoliator, its a natural fresh water river bed sponge (prickly sensation you feel)
Sea Fennel, Lilac, and Aragan Plant Stem Cells– Repairs cells and lightens the skin
Green Tea Extract– Antioxidant
Mastiha– Anti-inflammatory, brightening, & healing properties

This amazing product can be used on all skin types, and is safe for pregnant women. However, it does not mean EVERY person is a candidate. As an exfoliator, we must take pre-cautions to prep and evaluate the skin before receiving this facial!
If you struggle from fine lines, acne scarring, or pigment issues and you don’t want to commit to needling right now, this may be the alternative for you!

Lets talk!

Magic of Mastiha

One of our favorite things about our skincare line, Lira Clinical, is their secret ingredient found naturally on our lovely planet. We know many of you are using this product at home, but we want you to fully fall in love with the benefits.

Mastiha, comes from the resin of Pistacia Lentiscus trees. These are ancient trees that only grow on the southwest coast of Chios in the Mediterranean. But many of these uses are used in skincare to manage and correct skin conditions.

You can drink it, eat, and use it topically. It really is the fountain of youth!

Masitha is found in two of our lines, the MYSTIQ for lightning, tightening and healing the skin; as well as the ICE for curing oily and acne skin with its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.

Homemade Whipped Body Scrub & Body Butter

Many of you have been asking me how I made my holiday body butters and body scrubs, so I finally had time to post them for you all to make at home! And I am so happy to hear how so many of you loved my gifts! ūüôā

WHIPPED BODY BUTTER
what you need:
Electric mixer (to make it whipped)
1/2 cup coconut oil (I get the triple filtered from Trader Joe’s because it has NO coconut scent to mess with your oils)
1/2 cup shea butter
1 tsp arrowroot powder (to help not be so greasy and absorb into the skin faster)
2 tsp sweet almond oil
1 tsp vitamin-E oil (to preserve up t0 6 months)
10 drops essential oil of your choice

  1. Slowly melt Shea butter and coconut oil in microwave and mix together in a bowl. Add sweet almond oil and vitamin-E. Chill in refrigerator for 15-20 or until the top layer becomes a soft solid again.
  2. Add peppermint oil, and arrow root powder to the mix, use an electric mixer on low to start, then on med/high until mix is blended well and fluffy! (test the mix, if it feel too oily then add more arrow root powder, but if you add too much powder- it will leave a powdery feel on the skin! You will have to let it sit overnight to really see what the texture will turn out as!)
  3. Place in a cute jar, and hydrate up!

WHIPPED BODY SCRUB

What you need:
Electric Mixer (to make it whipped)

1/2 cup Sugar ( I get the organic raw cane to exfoliate better because crystals are little bigger)
1/2 cup coconut oil (I get the triple filtered from Trader Joe’s because it has NO coconut scent to mess with your oils)
1 tsp arrowroot powder
10 drops essential oil of your choice
2 tsp sweet almond oil
1 tsp vitamin-E oil (to preserve up to 6 months)

  1. Mix together coconut oil, sugar, arrowroot, sweet almond oil, vitamin-E, and essential oils into a bowl. (Make sure coconut oil is not melted and is still a soft solid)
  2. Use electric mixer to blend together all ingredients. (Don’t mix too much or else the sugar will grind up too small! Test batch, if you feel like sugar is not ‘rough’ enough, add more and manually mix it in)
  3. Place in cute jar and keep it in your shower to scrub 3x a week!

Note- You all know me, so of course I used mostly all organic products. Some of the products are more expensive at stores, so if you plan to make bigger batches- I recommend buying in bulk on amazon! ūüôā

A little about peppermint oil:
I decided to use peppermint oil, not only because it’s a wonderful holiday scent, but because of how many amazing health benefits it gives to the body! Just breathing peppermint stimulates the brains pleasure point by 50% and reduces anxiety by 50%! Peppermint is also a great oil to help fight away bacteria from body acne! If you are ever feeling nauseous (for my pregnant clients) peppermint oil is a great way to relieve nausea and stomach cramping! In the holistic world, they also use peppermint as a painkiller! So next time you experience these symptoms, try some tea, or diffusing this magical oil!

Making your own beauty product are such a healthier/safe way to treat your skin, I hope you enjoy and have fun doing it!

What to (not) look for when purchasing Skincare Products

Having a hard time deciding what skincare products to use?
Let me help you narrow down your decision, by informing you of a few common ingredients you should probably avoid!

safeskin

Parabens– Widely used in products to preserve or prolong artificial ‘fragrances’. These are easy penetrated chemicals, that go into the body and act as hormones. Parabens have been linked to the tissues found in breast cancer. Known to active dermatitis, eczema, and rosacea.
Label to look for:¬†Most Parabans will have the word ‘Paraban’ in it, such as Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Butylparaben.

Diethanolamine (DEA)– A chemical used to produce a ‘lather’ in cleansers. Known to create a potent carcinogen called NDEA, which is absorbed into the skin and linked to bladder, liver, kidney, and stomach cancers. Some say that this chemical has to be combined with certain products to produce its negative effects, but this chemical has already been banned in other countries, so it must have some concern!
Label to look for: DEA, Diethanolamine, Cocamide DEA, DEA Lauryl Sulfate

Sulfates– ¬†In cleansers sulfates work as surfactants: water- and oil-soluble compounds that when combined with water, foam and emulsify greasy substances. After using a cleanser with sulfates, you may feel squeaky clean, more dry than moisturized, and that no more oil is on your face.. but what this chemical is doing, is actually just stripping the skin of our natural oils, that protect the barrier. And because the oil is being stripped away, our skin is being told to produce more oil, to compensate what it has lost! (This goes the same with your scalp and hair) Sulfates are also known as the number one ‘skin irritant’. If you have an allergic reaction to a product, sulfates are almost always involved!
Label to look for: Sulfate, SLS, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate

Fragrance– If you look on many skin care products, the word ‘fragrance’ pops up in the ingredient list. Your product may smell good, but have you ever wondered what that smell is actually made of? Fragrance is one ingredient that the FDA does not regulate as strictly as they probably should. One word, can mean hundreds of chemicals, forming a scent. Many of these synthetic chemicals can cause negative side effects such as: headaches, asthma attacks, allergies, and rashes. Another dangerous part of this word is phthalates. Most synthetic fragrances are stabilized with¬†phthalates. Pthalates are a group of chemicals used to soften and increase flexibility. This chemical compound has traced back to high levels of developmental and reproductive toxicity. Important to stay away from ‘fragrance’ while pregnant and breast feeding!
Label to look for: Fragrance, Perfume, Parfum

Formaldehyde– Known as a human carcinogen, formaldehyde is a colorless, strong smelling gas, that is toxic to the human body in many ways. This chemical has been linked to cases of lukemia, and it initiates the formation of tumors. There is no facts that exposure to formaldehyde alone, has been linked to cancer; but when mixed with formaldehyde-releasing preservatives (that are common in skin care products), a gas called ‘nitrosamines’ forms and is absorbed and penetrated through the skin, and that chemical has been linked to cancer. Formadehyde is classified as a high-grade allergen, causing chemical burns on the skin when applied topically with products containing this chemical.
Label to look for: Formaldehyde, Quaternium-15, DMDM hydantoin, Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate

When purchasing skin care, you want it to be as clean as possible! Look for ‘sulfate-free, paraban-free, artificial fragrance/chemical-free’ products! Keep your skin glowing, and your body happy!

Remember- you are what you put on your skin!

Bring on the Sun!

Mineral Based Sunscreens VS. Chemical Sunscreens
Summer is around the corner, although I am all for that natural VITA-D, you need to make sure to be protected! Many Clients have asked me the best sunscreen to use on their face, whether it be to prevent irritation and breakouts, cancer-causing sun rays, and cancer-causing chemical ingredients. Here is a brief answer to what the difference is between active ingredients in sunscreens and/or sunblock.

Zinc Oxide and/or Titanium Dioxide:

Zinc Oxide is the most common active ingredient in most professional and ‘natural’ based skin care lines. Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide are minerals that do not dissolve into sunscreens and absorb into your skin. Both minerals work by sitting on the top layer of your skin, where they then scatter, absorb, and reflect ultraviolet radiation, protecting the living skin in your dermis layers below. Zinc Oxide, is a full spectrum blocker, protecting from UVA, UVB, and UVC. Titanium Dioxide is also used alongside Zinc Oxide to help protect from UVB rays, but is not as affective in protecting against UVA rays. Titanium Dioxide is mainly used in mineral makeup that contain an SPF. Just know that when using makeup with an SPF double check that it contains Zinc Oxide as well or you won’t be protected from all the sun rays!

Oxybenzone, Oxtinoxate, Octisalate etc.

These are all known as an active ingredient in synthetic chemical sunscreens.

These chemicals are significantly different than a mineral base compound. They ONLY work by absorbing into the skin. These chemicals produce free-radicals, and because they work when absorbed, they are releasing these free-radicals into the bloodstream. Oxybenzone is a popular spectrum blocker, but also one of the most troublesome to your health. This chemical has been believed to cause hormone unbalance, and cell damage that may provoke cancer. It gets into the blood-steam, and acts like estrogen in the body. Many people will develop an allergic reaction, and many health risks linking to this chemical.

Stay Protected!

Hydration is key

One of my all time favorite hydration products is Hyaluronic Acid. You may have heard of this acid, because it is the number one anti-aging ingredient on the market right now.

hyaluronic1
Hyaluronic is an acid that we, as humans, naturally produce. This is the key reason why baby skin is so smooth and plump. As we grow into young adults, we slowly start to lose this acid in our bodies and by the time we are adults, it is mainly all gone.
Skin Care specialist are creating a way to topically push hyaluronic back into the skin, for a smooth, hydrated and plump complexion.
Not only does hyaluronic work for aging skin, but it is an amazing product for acneic-oily, and dry skin as well.
Holding 1,000x  its weight in water, hyaluronic provides locked moisture, plumpness, and firming to the skin.

Here is a few ways to start using hyaluronic in your skin care regiment:

Aging/Dry Skin- Use every morning and night, right after you cleanse your face, add moisturizer on top.

hyaluronic2

Acneic/Oily Skin- Use at night only, 3/4 times a week. Will help lock in moisture so skin is not so oily the next day.

Post Acneic/Scarring Skin- Use during scarring treatments (micro-needling/microdermabrasion/peels/nano-needle). Put on skin right after a micro-needle session. Use only hyaluronic for 2 days after a session. This will get into the punctured area and fill/plump up the scar to smooth out pit scarring or uneven surface scarring from acne.
hyaluronic3

When purchasing  and using, you always want to find the purest, highest concentrate of hyaluronic acid, for the best results!
Blends are a cheaper/good way to start, but will take longer to notice results.
Start plumping my friends!
